This Well Regarded South Carolina Priest Can't Be Refuted

South Carolina Catholic priest Fr. Jay Scott Newman is warning parishioners who may have voted for Obama to refrain from receiving the Eucharist until they have gone to Confession over the matter. Here is the link. As the article says, it's not a matter of punishing people but rather of keeping people from harming themselves by receiving the Eucharist unworthily. This particular priest is not a nut case by any means; he has a good reputation as a sensible pastor (see his website). Here is St. Paul's take on the matter in this Pauline Year:

1 Corinthians 11:29-30 (ESV): "For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died."

If you haven't discerned by now the offense to Jesus of voting for a radically pro-abortion candidate, you are, in my opinion, receiving without "discerning the body." Better to stay in the pew and seek some deeper insight and conversion first before harming yourself.
